BusinessWeek: New Dyslexia Documentary Explains Entrepreneur Link
… Aware that many entrepreneurs view their dyslexia as a gift, the Raymonds say they were struck by the stories of how founders had discovered their strengths early in their lives, while struggling in school. “Carl Schramm [the CEO of the Kauffman Foundation, who is interviewed in the film] says there’s no particular reason to think that you could connect the dots between a learning disability and entrepreneurs. He believes it’s because they are visionary and they do have an ability to see things other people don’t. They’re people who don’t fit in typical societal norms, so they sort of create their own world. It’s a fascinating idea,” says Alan. …

Inc. and Big Think Blogs: Dyslexia Fosters Entrepreneurs?
carolsanford: "…I would say close to 50% of the entrepreneurial leaders I have worked with over the years (as I sit here and count them up) have been dyslexic. including @JeffHollender, the co-founder of Seventh Generation. We always allowed extra time for him to read slower than every one else, on materials I shared in Strategy sessions. But his reading "challenges" also allowed his mind to "wander" into corners and ways of viewing that no one else saw. It is a gift when the culture does not convince someone otherwise.…"

Business Insider: Dyslexia Makes Great Entrepreneurs
"Are these people more visionary, can they see things differently?" asks Carl Schramm, CEO of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation to advance entrepreneurship, who also appears in the film. "They come to the realization that society pronounces the number of skill sets that are necessary for success that they don't seem to have. And they go out and build the environment in which they will impact. That's sort of my working hypothesis to explain why all these entrepreneurs exist who have traits of dyslexia."

Steve Walker, founder and CEO of New England Wood Pellet, can immediately dissect a complex business system in his head, whereas the average person likely could not. He also can look at that multi-dimensional system and visually memorize its ins and outs.

KANSAS CITY BUSINESS JOURNAL: Kauffman Foundation CEO Schramm appears in dyslexia documentary
Academy Award winning filmmakers Alan and Susan Raymond lend a roughly four-minute spot to Schramm in the film, “Journey into Dyslexia.” It also will be available on demand.
The filmmakers met Schramm two years ago when they attended a meeting in Arizona that the Kauffman Foundation hosted on the link between dyslexia and entrepreneurship, said foundation communications director Joy Torchia. The discussion was based on a study the foundation commissioned in 2007 finding that as many as 35 percent of entrepreneurs may be dyslexic, Torchia said. …
